Our theme this week from Itty Bitty Bookworm was The Three Little Kittens. We read tons of wonderful books about kitten and mittens. Our favorite was The Mitten by Jan Brett.
We set up our own vet clinic and took turns bringing our pets for a check-up.
We made books called "The Kitten's Mittens" Each page named the color of the kittens mittens. Caleb and Hannah had to use that color to make mittens for the kitten. I was surprised at how much Caleb enjoyed this. He typically does not like to color but actually gladly participated in several coloring activities this week. I was also surprised to realize that he can read all of his color words.
After they colored mittens on each kitten, they cut out their books and stapled them together. They loved reading their books to Daddy that night.
I put the kids in the bathtub and let them wash their mittens. Then they got to use clothes pins to hang them up to dry. This was their favorite activity of the week!
Hannah didn't have any trouble fastening her mittens to the "clothes line". She tends to have pretty good fine motor skills.
Hannah did several of these pages where she had to find and color all the snowmen with a certain shape on their belly (square, rectangle, oval, circle, triangle). She didn't have any trouble distinguishing these shapes.
Our letter this week was the letter O. We each chose a letter O picture from here to dot paint.
They had to color mittens, cut them out and match them to the correct kitten and glue them on. I actually helped cut out the mittens, they were kinda small for little fingers.
What do kittens like to play with? Yarn! And my little kittens liked it too. I gave them each a plate of glue, several pieces of yarn and a piece of construction paper. I said, "glue them on however you want." Caleb said, "you mean make a collage?" I love this boys use of big words!
Hannah was all about getting her little fingers in some glue.
This was the first time they both did school work together on Hannah's new easel.

At the end of the week we all colored a picture that went along with our Bible story for the week. This was a fun time spent together after breakfast, definitely something we will continue.
Had a couple of bananas that were going bad so Hannah helped make some banana bread. It was yummy!
We also went to storytime at the library and finally made it back to Fun Time Fridays at the gym. Caleb LOVES gym time!
Caleb continues to do about 10 pages of Horizon Kindergarten Math a week and reads a new book. He is also doing well with Explode the Code online. He loves doing anything on the computer. Next week I am stepping up my time with Hannah. Not really anything any more structured than what we are already doing, just some more one on one time.
