Caleb (6 yrs old) has always loved to read. He snuggled with me as a baby to read, has always enjoyed reading multiple books at bedtime, and has even enjoyed long chapter books since he was 4. He learned to read when he was 4 1/2 and since then has frequently pulled simple books off our shelves to read to himself. I will often catch him hiding under his covers with a book and a flashlight at bedtime. For the last year he has LOVED the Magic Treehouse book series. He borrows one of these from the library every time we go (weekly) and we read a chapter or two a day together. He never really made an attempt to read these by himself, just assumed he couldn't because they were so long. I knew, however, that he could because I know what a strong reader he is. Yesterday, during our trip to the library I told Caleb we weren't getting a chapter book because we wouldn't have time to finish it before we leave for our vacation. He said if I would let him get it he would read it to himself. AND HE DID!!! ALL 106 pages in less than 24 hours!
The toilet is one of his favorite places to read but I didn't want to photograph him there. :)
