Dr. Seuss

The past two weeks have been all about Dr Seuss and we have had so much fun!  We read every Dr Seuss book we own (24) plus a few from the library.  We watched Horton Hears a Who, How the Grinch Stole Christmas, and went to the movies to see the Lorax.  We made green eggs and ham for dinner one night.

We made these cute pop up crafts.

We made YUMMY Cat Hat Cookies (oreos dipped in white chocolate topped with a large marshmallow dipped in red candy coating).

 Horton Hears a Who Craft

These are Grinch cookies and they were HORRIBLE!!!!!!!!!  Not sure if something was printed wrong in the recipe I used or if I goofed somehow, but they went in the trash!
Cat Hat pancake stack.  The strawberries didn't turn the batter as red as I hoped, but they sure were delish!
Favorite Craft of the week!  They also wrote a SHORT story to go with their picture.  We have a LONG way to go on story development!

We had a Dr Seuss birthday party at the library.
This Lorax craft was also a lot of fun.

Human Body

Today we finished our Human Body unit in our Nancy Larson 1 Science curriculum.  We have LOTS of books to go along with this unit so we read and learned a ton about our bodies.  We used The Usborne Internet Linked Children's Encyclopedia, Uncover the Human Body, Your Insides by Joanna Cole, and The Usborne Flip-Flap Body Book.  We also read and watched the Magic School us Human Body.  We watched several online videos.

We made paper plate skeletons.

We explored how the body processes sugar faster than flour.
We made an esophagus and stomach and used our hands as stomach muscles to digest the bread.  They LOVED this.

We also soaked chicken legs in vinegar.  The legs were suppose to become rubbery but it didn't work.
We will switch make to Social Studies next week and return to Science in a few weeks to explore insects.
