Have You Missed Us?

At the end of November I created this beautiful plan in my mind.  It went something like this- we would spend December focusing on Advent activities while still spending as much time as possible on our regular activities.  We would take a couple of weeks off around the holidays.  I would spend that time preparing lovely plans for our next semester of school.  We would get back on our regular schedule using my lovely new plans immediately upon our return from KY January 10.  Here is what really happened.  I spent all my time in December planning a baby shower for my sister-in-law and preparing for Christmas and Caleb's 6th birthday.  We had his party on Jan. 2, had a special day with him for his actual birthday on the 3rd, then headed to KY on the 4th.  We returned from KY on the 10th with a sick Hannah and Caleb began getting sick on the 11th.  We eventually ended up at the ER with Caleb (croup) on the 16th.  The next week we began dealing with a family situation that had us traveling a good bit three weekends in a row.  So, as far as school goes we have been reading as many books as we can, trying to get to at least one craft a week, keeping up with Caleb's workbooks, and playing lots of games.  It finally feels like things are beginning to settle down.  I am working hard this week to get some planning finished.  Hopefully my regular posts will return next week.  For now I just wanted to record a few shots of what we did accomplish the last few weeks.

We had a week about penguins.  We froze paint and painted with it while it melted.  This was a big hit with Hannah, not so much with Caleb.

 We made penguin snacks.
 We made penguin puppets.
 And played Pengoloo.
Hannah and Caleb drew pictures of penguins.

Our next week was about Chicken Little.
We made these cute chicken crafts.
We talked about different kinds of birds.
We made nests and used marshmallows for eggs.

Not really related to school, but we found this Polish pottery tea set in the attic and decided Hannah was ready for it.  She is my little cook!
Last week was suppose to be all about dogs and I had some really cute things planned, but it just didn't happen.  We read lots of books about dogs, but didn't accomplish anything else related to the theme.

So here's to HIGH HOPES of many wonderful learning experiences over the next few months!
