I have always loved the idea of being a teacher. I played school with my sisters, with my baby dolls, and with friends. I spent over 4 years in college to teach, greatly enjoyed student teaching in a fifth grade class and second grade class, but then decided to put a teaching career on hold to stay home and love on, care for, and teach my own babies. Now the two dreams (teacher and mother) come together. Ron and I have decided to homeschool Caleb and Hannah. We have several reasons for making this decision. I feel that the Lord has called and equipped me to be the perfect teacher for my children. I love the extra time I will get to share with my children as opposed to missing out on 8 hours of the day five days a week. I like being able to choose our curriculum to best meet their needs and interests. We hope homeschooling with minimize some of the early exposure to the ugliness of our world that has become so prevalent in the school systems today. So here we go, taking a giant leap into the world of homeschooling- very excited, a little scared, but confident that the Lord will bless us as we follow Him! Check back often to see what we have been doing at Hallelujah Harvest. If I haven't posted anything new in a while it may be that I am busy studying and preparing, trying to be smarter than a Kindergartener :) !
Here is how it will work for us this year:
I will be using the three-year-old curriculum from Hubbard's Cupboard three days a week. Though this will mostly be for Hannah, Caleb will also be participating in most of this. Caleb will be working through the Kindergarten curriculum from Sonlight four days a week. While I am working with Caleb, Hannah will have a variety of activities (pre-selected by me) to work on. These will include things like puzzles, aquadoodle, sorting, lacing, matching, coloring, etc.). Thankfully she really loves this stuff and is fairly content to entertain herself with such things for a decent period of time. She will be rewarded with some special one on one time with Mommy in the afternoon while Caleb gets computer time which is a great reward to him (that child is amazing on a computer for a 4 year old!). We will enjoy story hour at the library once a week as well as participate in parties and field trips with a homeschool care group.
I have some great pictures from our first day of school. I will get them posted here soon.
