Our focus book this week was Mouse Paint by Ellen Stoll Walsh. We read this book earlier this year and the kids loved it so they were delighted to see it return. Mostly they were excited because they knew painting would be on the agenda for the week.
Enough time has past that I seem to have forgotten much of what we did last week. Our letter for the week was Rr. We printed off "R" pictures to dot paint. Hannah painted a rainbow, Caleb painted a racecar, and I painted a raccoon.
We talked a lot about making new colors by mixing two colors. They colored Venn Diagrams that showed the new color that would be created when mixing two colors. We talked about the use of the words mouse/mice. Their favorite activity was painting a mouse color book. Each page had a mouse on it and they painted each page a different color. Enjoy the video below of Hannah painting the cover page. I had stepped out of the room to start washing paint brushes and while I was out of the room Hannah decided she would rather finger paint than use a brush.
The kids also enjoyed show and tell at the library.
Caleb is still doing really well with his math. I really pushed him this week asking him to complete 4 pages each day to try to catch up a bit, but he still did great. He is also continuing to read quite well. I am amazed by some of the sentences he can read during his computer work.
Hannah seems to be suddenly grasping concepts we have been working on for a long time. I have been doing lots of worksheets with her just because she loves doing it. She is also spending more time on a few computer activities and has gotten much better using the mouse.
The highlight of the week was "Kid Date" weekend. Daddy took Caleb out Friday night. He got to pick where he wanted to eat, he chose Logan's, then Daddy surprised him by taking him to a Monster Truck Rally. Caleb had never been to a Monster Truck show before and he loved it and loved his alone time with Daddy. Hannah spent the evening out with Mommy. She chose to eat at Chop House (she calls it the Chomp House). She had never been there before but that has become Mommy and Daddy's date place so she thought it must be special. She thought it was very funny that the waiter kept calling us "ladies". She asked to go to Chuck E. Cheese's after dinner. I only take the kids there during the week when everyone else is at school. I knew it would be busy on a Friday night, but I wasn't prepared for what we encountered. They were having FIVE birthday parties simultaneously!!! It was horrible. We couldn't move in there, kept getting knocked around, and had to wait in line to do anything. We didn't stay long, but Hannah still enjoyed her special time with Mommy and Mommy really enjoyed her time alone with her little girl...rare moments!
Caleb and Hannah decided to try out some photography skills this week. They took turns taking pictures with Daddy's camera. Caleb took this one of Hannah and really makes me laugh. They actually took a few good ones. Of course I have about 30 crazy pictures of the tv, floor, and other random pictures to delete and I immediately deleted all the LOVELY photos of Mommy!
