Dandelion: February 28-March 4

This week was all about lions and we had so much fun!  Our focus book was DANDELION by Don Freeman.  We found lots of other great books about lions to read this week as well.

I taught the kids how to draw a lion using an Usborne Playtime book I CAN DRAW ANIMALS that I bought for $2.00 at a consignment store.  They loved this.

They colored a picture of a lion and added a hat like the character from DANDELION.
We also made handprint lions.

McRuffy Phonics and Reading- Kindergarten
Caleb (lessons 126-130)
Hannah (lessons 11-15)
Hannah continues to love having her own school books and is thrilled to be learning to read.  She is having fun and doing well although she is a bit inconsistent.  That is okay.  She is learning, we'll just go slow.  We continued working on 2 letter blends and three letter words.

MCRUFFY MATH- KINDERGARTEN
Hannah (lessons 10-13)
Practiced writing the number 1-10, put numbers and sets in order,  made patterns

MCRUFFY MATH- FIRST GRADE
Caleb (lessons 120-123)
Our main focus this week and dividing objects into halves.  He took Test 3 this week.  I am always surprised to see some of the things that he just totally doesn't get on the test since he always does well on the workbook pages.  Place value continues to be something he struggles with.

MCRUFFY SCIENCE- Kindergarten

I continue to struggle with getting our science lessons done each week.  They are simple lessons, I just don't choose to make science a priority, though I really should since Caleb LOVES science!
This week we learned about volume and used water and popcorn to compare volume in different containers.

We played a little map game where I would call out a state and Caleb had 10 seconds to locate it.  He does really well with this mostly thanks to his well traveled Dad.  If Daddy has been there, Caleb knows where it is!
This was our favorite game of the week- SCRABBLE JUNIOR.

We also enjoyed a birthday party for Dr. Seuss at the library.
