Summer Craziness

I debated for a while how much school work to plan for the summer.  Now I am VERY thankful that I didn't plan to try to keep our full school schedule through the summer.  We have so many extra things going on it seems we never stop going.  Our plan for the summer is to focus on our Bible time and one special topic a week.  The rest of our time will be spent participating in library programs, summer movies, and just playing.  We will return to a full school schedule in August.  Here is a bit of what we did this week.

For our Bible time we have started working through Our 24 Family Ways by Clay Clarkson.  This week our focus was WE LOVE AND OBEY OUR LORD, JESUS CHRIST WITH WHOLEHEARTED DEVOTION.  Our goal is to spend some time together each Sunday afternoon coloring a picture of our new family way.  The rest of the week we read scriptures and discuss questions related to our family way.  We also have a memory verse each week.  This week was Matt. 22:37-38  Jesus replied, "Love the Lord your God with all  your heart, with all your soul, and with all your mind."  This is the first and greatest commandment.

Hannah has been working on site words using activities from here.  This week she learned a, see, and, and the.

Caleb finished his first grade McRuffy Math book.

We also spent the week reading books by Laura Numeroff.  We read IF YOU GIVE A MOOSE A MUFFIN and made chocolate chip muffins.

We read IF YOU TAKE A MOUSE TO SCHOOL and did our school work.  We read IF YOU TAKE A MOUSE TO THE MOVIES and went to the movies to watch Kung Fu Panda II.  We read IF YOU GIVE A PIG A PANCAKE and had pancakes for breakfast.  And finally we read IF YOU GIVE A MOUSE A COOKIE and made yummy cookies.

Our other big focus this week was TORNADOES.  We watched videos of tornadoes, read LOTS of fiction and non-fiction tornado books, made a tornado with two liter bottles, watched THE WIZARD of OZ, and assembled a weather station for our backyard.  Caleb really enjoyed all of this.  He always enjoys science.

Other things that kept us busy this week:
Caleb's last t-ball game
Granny visiting
Therapy Dogs at the library
